It is ever more apparent in the modern golfing era of the importance of physical conditioning. Not only for peak performance but injury prevention and longevity within the game. Gary Player realised its importance many years ago and one of the Worlds recent golfing greats, Tiger Woods, has made physical conditioning a top priority within his overall training programme. Technical swing issues may be addressed and developed between the Golf Professional and pupil however if physical limitations impede this development these areas must be addressed in order for further development. Key areas within a screening process cover mobility and stability. Mobility is the combination of normal joint range of motion and proper muscular flexibilty. This is a must for correct mechanics and to prevent injury. Mobility allows your body to move in all six degrees of motion, therefore giving you the ability to perform any motion without having to sacrifice stability. Stability is created by combining balance, strength and muscular endurance. If you want to keep the bow of a bow and arrow stable as you pull the string back, you must have good balance, strength and muscular endurance. This is the same principle involved in creating a powerful golf swing. The ability to keep one part of your body secure while stretching and contracting adjacent segments allows us to generate speed and maintain a consistent posture throughout the golf swing.
